The grounds at Sleightholmedale are included in the 'Good Gardens Guide' and have been opened to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme since 1947.
The large hillside garden has been looked after by the same family since 1904 and has been widely written about, including articles in the Telegraph Week End Magazine, the ‘Shell Guide to the Gardens of England’, ‘The Rose Gardens of England’, ‘Country Life’ and ‘The Garden’ (RHS) 2002.
Special features are the old-fashioned roses and a delightful walled garden with stone paths and oak fences. The wooded hillside is limestone, and a natural habitat for many interesting wild flowers including wild daffodils, lilies of the valley, columbine and orchids. |
